Wow Badge System

Without rules, chaos reigns. We of the sacred order of the Illuminatus hold chaos sacred. However, order has its place. In order to ensure that a MAJORITY of OI raiders has a fun time raiding and raiding continues, a loot reward system is necessary.

DISCLAIMERS

Having a guild loot reward system makes a few basic assumptions.

  • WoW is a loot-based game.
  • A raid point system is controversial and never 100% fair to everyone.
  • Not everyone will like it.
  • You do not have to participate in an official OI WoW Raid event. You can form your own, with your own rules, as long as everyone knows the rules before the raid event begins.

Rationale

Raiding requires a certain level of dedication, commitment, skill and patience. A DKP system is designed to reward those who have put a lot of time and effort into raiding, but still allow newer or less frequent raiders a good chance to get raid gear drops.

In any given raid group, you have those hard-core players that have defeated some of the initial bosses already, most likely several times over (Group A). Then you have those players that either has never fought the boss before or perhaps it is their 2nd or 3rd time in (Group B).

By the time Group B players are joining up with Group A players, Group A players have already looted the initial bosses so many times, that rarely does a Group A player need anything that drops. However, there are those rare occasions that a Group A player finally gets a chance to get a certain piece of loot that a Group B player can also use.

This is one of the main reasons to have a loot award system. Having a system in play helps that Group A player obtain that specific piece of gear they’ve tried over and over to get, and prevents a newer player from swooping in and taking it on their first try.

This may seem unfair to the more casual player at first glance. But stop, breathe, and think about it for a moment. Realize this scenario does not occur very often at all. But it has occurred, and will occur again. Without a system in place, conflicts like this can lead to a lot of resentment and frustration. Having a system seeks to alleviate this.

Beginner raiders should realize that they are benefiting from the many wipes and lessons learned from the veteran raiders. This is not meant to elevate a veteran player on a higher pedestal. It’s simply designed to allocate loot fairly in rare situations.

Raiding is not the same as running an instance. There are a lot more dynamics in place. There is an old Vulcan saying, “The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one”. If everyone keeps this old Vulcan saying in mind when raiding, courtesy and common sense should prevail, and the need to cash in loot award points will rarely have to be called in to play.

What if I Signed, but Didn't get into the Raid Group?

Most raid instances reset when the server resets on Tuesdays. This simple fact complicates things for guilds that raid.

If you signed up for a raid, but cannot get into the raid group because of appropriate party-build or sheer-number factors, there is still a chance that you can be awarded OI Badges to be used later, when you are part of a future raid. This will be covered in the rules.

If you signed up for a raid, but were placed on backup once the raid list was finalized - PLEASE make sure you are still "in-game & ready"! Often times the raid leader will still need you to fill a spot if somebody who was on the final list can not make it or does not show up.

"Backup Happens" and no member of the raid group is "immune" from being placed on backup occasionally. Oi raid leaders do their best to build solid & diverse groups that will have the best chances for success in the instance. If more than 3 or 4 of any specific class/spec sign up - odds are pretty good that one or two of that class/spec will be put on backup if the raid is in high demand with ample signups. In order to maximize raid buffs, raid leaders are likely to take at least one of as many different class/spec combinations as they can. If only one Boomkin signs up (for example), odds are - they'll be on the final list as long as they're toon is "content appropriately ready". If six Hunters sign up (for example), odds are - at least 2 or 3 will probably be placed on backup. Many fights require a variety of different Melee & Ranged/Caster classes as well. "Too many" Melee or "Not Enough" Melee can often times harm a raid groups chances for success. Raid Leaders work hard to find the necessary "Happy Medium" between class/spec variety as well as Melee/Caster variety.

Backup Courtesy

IF you are placed on backup:

  • please do NOT "spam whisper" the raid leader with complaints and whines prior to the raid starting!
  • please do NOT try to get people who are on the final list to give up their spots, as this is rude!
  • please do NOT throw fits, ninja log, complain in guild chat, or bother people in vent with QQ'ing!
  • Please DO be ready in case you are needed to fill a spot.
  • Please DO remember that if the raid leader needs you, they know where to find you and they know you're on backup. (you don't have to whisper them reminders.)
  • Please DO send the raid leader a forum PM if you want to know why you were placed on backup, as communication is good.
  • Please DO stay in-game and on your toon for an hour from raid start time if you want your bonus 2DKP points for backup.

Those who are placed on backup and do not follow the above listed backup courtesy guidelines will only develop a bad reputation with the raid leaders and their fellow raiders. We are well aware that everyone who ends up on backup wanted to go, everyone who signed up wants to go. We are also well aware that you can not take more than 25 players into a 25man raid, so when signups are heavy - "backup happens". There is no need to make the situation worse by throwing fits. If you are concerned or truly want to know why you were on backup - the "right way" to handle it is to send a forum based PM to the raid leader.

OI DKP Badge System Basics

Every toon starts with zero (0) DKP Badges. DKP can not be sold, shared, given, nor transferred to different toons - DKP is "soulbound". It will be the Raid Leader or Loot Master's responsibility to keep track the number of DKP Badges earned/spent per run. OI raiders will be awarded OI DKP Badges using the following criteria.

a) 2 Badges = FOR STARTING AND BEING ON TIME. ON TIME DEFINED AS A 10 MINUTE WINDOW. AFTER 5 MINUTES YOUR SPOT IS UP FOR GRABS, IF YOU LOG IN BEFORE THE SPOT IS FILLED, YOU ARE ENTITLED TO YOUR SPOT, BUT WILL NOT BE AWARDED THE 2 STARTER BADGES.
b) 2 Badges = For staying with the raid party until the official end of the Raid. (awarded when the raid concludes)
c) 1 Badge = One Badge for the completion of one boss encounter.
d) 2 Badges = “Comp Badges” For being signed up for a raid, but not included in the actual raid party. (*awarded first day of the raid week only)
e) 3/4 Badges = For each raid boss encounter while it is considered in *progressive status.

End Game Raids are considered to be on progressive status, as outlined & decided by the Raid Officer. Once an instance is mastered it will be no longer be considered *progressive and shall be modified accordingly, typically to a 1:1 ratio.
ADDITIONALLY, badges will only be awarded for "25 Man" raids in Wrath of the Lich King content.
The only exclusion is Wintergrasp. It has been deemed a "DKP free" zone, as VoA raids can not be scheduled in advance.

*Please see topic below titled "DKP AND PROGRESSION RAIDS" for more information about DKP awards in progression raids.

Comp. Badge Requirement:

You must be available on stand by, from time the raid starts to 60 minutes out. If you log off for any reason, you defunct on the points. Raid Leader or assistant, will open the Social window, and track “stand-by” players at the end of the 60 minutes to validate that a stand-by member was online. Switching to Alts or logging out will defunct the points.

Also, any compliant/eligible players on backup, who were awarded the 2 comp badges will receive priority seating for next raid event of the same type. This "Priority Seating" must be used within 2 weeks, or it is lost.

Outline for Raid Loot Distribution

The loot process is currently broken up in three different phases. This is to help identify the differences of these stages and when it is appropriate to take part. Individuals are welcome to participate in lesser steps but it is not encouraged. Please keep in mind that not every stat is required for every class, if something has a stat not required or needed, please pass, this will ensure the maximum numbered geared. When in doubt, wait for back up or ask the loot master.

1. DKP BIDS – Gear upgrades for primary spec, primary armor proficiency.
2. NEED ROLLS – Upgrades/Side-grades, for primary spec, primary armor proficiency - AND gear upgrades for anyone currently not having dkp.
3. GREED/BACK UP – Gear upgrades for any off-specs & any armor proficiency. (If you can use it/wield it. NOT for vendor trash sale).

To Clarify:

Primary spec is your chosen spec stated in the raiding guidelines & expectations sign up thread. For those maintaining one character with two specs, it would be recognized as the spec you signed up with, for the raid.

Upgrades are defined as items enhancing or improving your current gear as well as items that will increase your output in your primary spec. This includes other gear sets for varying situations of your primary spec.

Side-grades are recognized as gear having similar stats to already acquired pieces. These side-grades would benefit different scenarios.

Off-spec is recognized as an alternate spec that you may or may not chose to utilize during normal game play.

See below for further explanations on each.

How Badges are Used / Minimum Bids

Badges are used like currency in an auction. When a Loot event occurs, all players pass on epic loot (raid leader should have setup for master loot, but just in case…) When loot is displayed to raid party, Leader asks who would like to bid on the item (i.e., upgrade, not backup). Bidding commences.
An opening bid of at least 5 dkp is required to bid, with minimum bid increments of 5 (all in, would be the only exception).

If One or More Wants to Bid

Each player publicly (/raid) announces their initial bid. Raid leader facilitates the badge auction until one player outbids all other players. Raid Leader validates that winner player actually owns all badges. Loot is then awarded to winning member. That member is charged that total of badges he/she bid. Losing players do not lose any badges.

If Only One Person Needs

If only one member NEEDS the item, item is awarded to member. It is strongly suggested that if you have Badges, spend them. Some players feel that DKP are precious and won't spend them on an item if someone else is bidding, but will /roll NEED to procure the same item(s).

If Two or More People Need

In the event two or more NEED the item, a /roll will determine the winner if no one bids Badges.

If None Need

RAID LEADER ASKS IF ITEM CAN BE USED FOR BACKUP GEAR. Standard roll-off occurs if more then one player would like item for backup gear. If no one wants backup gear, item is dusted (DE'd) if possible and greed roll is made by all party members.

BOE Drops

BOE drops will be handled like any other BOP drop.

DKP, Need, and then Backup.

If the item is won by anyone, it is required that the item be equipped immediately (thus soulbound), so there are no questions.

The item will NOT be dis-enchanted if it is not won by a raider in the raid group. It will be placed in the guild bank.

Miscellaneous Rules

  • THERE WILL BE NO CAP ON NUMBER OF DKP BADGES YOU CAN COLLECT.
  • THERE IS NO LIMIT ON THE AMOUNT OF DKP BADGES YOU CAN BID. AGAIN FITTING IN TO THE CONCEPT THAT YOU PASSED ON LOT OF EPICS YOU GET REWARDED BIDDING ON THE WANT.
  • OI BADGE SYSTEM ONLY APPLIES TO 25+ PARTY RAID INSTANCES. (Wrath of the Lich King content only)

Wintergrasp is the exception to this. No Badges will be earned or spent in this zone.

  • BADGES WILL CROSS OVER TO ALL RAID INSTANCES.
  • YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TRANSFER BADGES FROM ONE TOON TO ANOTHER.

This also protects the casual raider. We do not want an Alt to come in with all of the mains badges and out bid the Casual raider that has put in his time to gather badges.

  • YOU CANNOT USE ANY DKP POINTS THE SAME RAID DAY/NIGHT THEY WERE EARNED (except for the bonus 2 for on-time start, which are awarded prior to the raid starting.)

DKP and Loot Courtesy

  • We celebrate when a fellow Oi'ster wins a piece of gear; those who loose the DKP bid or roll shall refrain from complaints & negative comments.
  • We do NOT artificially inflate the DKP bid amounts during bidding to force a fellow Oi'ster to spend more DKP, this is considered very rude. (One should never place a bid just to force a person who truly wants an item to spend more.) (If you're not prepared to spend it, don't bid it).
  • We do NOT make "fake" bids nor do we make "fake" rolls. This can confuse the loot master and those who have legitimate bids/rolls.

DKP and Progression Raids

Due to the fact that 2nd night of a two part run will incur the biggest repair bills, the most down time, the biggest struggles, the fewest amounts of gear & emblems, we have implemented the following DKP incentive plan to cut down on no-shows and feelings of pointlessness for those tough progression nights of wiping repeatedly on new boss encounters.

1. We will remove the 2 dkp finish bonus from the first night of the raid, typically Thurs and move it to the 2nd night typically Sunday so that the finish bonus for the two night progression raid is 4 and awarded at the conclusion of the second raid night.

2. Any guild first kill= 10 dkp For wings that have not been completely cleared boss kill dkp will be 4. For wings of an instance that have been cleared two times, the dkp per boss kill will be 3.

3. During progression runs, when no boss kills are occurring during the learning process, dkp will be awarded at hourly rate of 4 dkp per hr of raiding so that a 3 hr raid nets 12 dkp for that time

DISCLAIMER and Additional Info

Penalty for Sunday no-shows: "a no-show is somebody who just flat out did not show up - with no notice, no PM, no communication at all."

1. Any toon that "no-shows" for a raid for any reason will result in a greater likelihood of being placed on backup for future 25man raids. Also anyone who repeatedly cancels at the last minute for the 2nd night of progression raiding may also have a greater likelihood of being placed on backup for future 25man raids.

2. Those who sign up for BOTH nights of any 2-night 25man raid will "typically" be given priority over those signing up for just 1 of the 2-nights.

25man Guild Raids, DKP, & You!

Oi is: a diverse community guild with a focus on friends, fun, & a comfortable social gaming environment.

- All our members have numerous options for guild based fun & entertainment, including 25man PvE content!

Oi is not: a hardcore raiding guild, but we’re not careless & sloppy either.

- We raid for “fun & excitement”, balanced with “raiding guidelines & standards”, and seasoned with a dash of “reliability & dependability” to keep all those interested in raiding on the track for successful guild 25man raids.

Oi is not: a stepping stone for members to gear a toon with the desire to “leave” Oi and join hardcore raiding guilds.

- Oi raiding is a team & social environment where each of the 25man members present rely & depend on each other. We celebrate together, we wipe together, we progress together, and we face defeat together. When a toon that has been raiding 25man content with Oi is removed from the guild, the community & your fellow guild mates do suffer!

Question: So what do we do about this issue? Answer: We leave it up to YOU to decide!

· Oi is NOT “Hotel California” (where you can log out anytime, but you can never leave) LOL!

· Our Disciple members DO have the freedom to add toons & remove toons from the guild as long as the member follows our flexible & fair guidelines found in the guild wiki: topic “Leaving Oi”.

· Our Disciple members DO have the freedom to raid with 2 of their toons and choose to play up to 4 different specs (tank, heal, melee DPS, & range/caster DPS) with the guild in 25man PvE content.

· Our Disciple members DO have the freedom to swap out one (1) of their two (2) toons for another toon for 25man raids – once per year by sending a PM to our Raid Officer (Aliasbristow).

Freedom of Choice

1. If a member chooses to remove one of their current two (2) toons from Oi that they raid 25man content with, they can only raid with the remaining toon and can not add a replacement second toon for 25man PvE content with Oi for 6 months.

2. If a member chooses to remove both of their current two (2) toons from Oi that they raid 25man content with, they can not raid 25man content with any of their Oi guilded toons for 6 months (if this is a low leveled alt the timeframe starts from when they hit 80).

Consequences of Choice

1. If a member who has left Oi with a toon that had DKP from Oi 25man raids and later returns to Oi with that toon, that toon will be ineligible to join any 25man guild raids nor able to earn DKP until that toon has been in the guild for 6 months after their return date.

2. Any toon with DKP that has been removed from Oi or swapped out for a different raiding toon will have their DKP reset to zero and will be ineligible to join any 25man guild raids nor able to earn DKP until that toon has waited 6 months.

Exceptions

Any member who wishes to seek an exception, to any of the above, may submit a written PM via the guild website to the Raid Officer outlining the specifics of their situation, decision, and circumstances. Upon review, the Raid Officer will request an officer core vote to grant (or deny) an exception for a member.

Additional Notes

Any member of the guild can participate in any 5 or 10man PvE groups & raids. The above information does not apply to any guild raid or event that is not identified as an official or guild sanctioned 25man raid where DKP will be awarded. (i.e. Burning Crusade 25man raids, Vault/VoA, and any 25man PvE event where DKP will not be awarded to participants).
